Show Manila Clara fccbinson Phone 784-3463 1 Nine wrestlers compete in Evanston tourney Nine Flaming Gorge wrestling club members participated in a wrestling tournament in Evanston, Wyo., April 3. Coming home with trophies were Dewey Lamb, S. P. Valentine and Brant Meinrod, all second place winners. win-ners. Stew Leith took third place. Zeb Beck, Billie Rosser and Ron Williams all won one match. Other participants were Johnny Roser and Lennie Cook. Coach Hank Geitz was pleased with the boys efforts in the AAU sanctioned match. The next tournament will be held Saturday, April 10 in Mountain View, Wyo. Brant Meinrod will participate in the State AAU tournament in Cheyenne, Wyo. which will be April 16, 17 and 18. Manila 4-H members participated in the Sweetwater County competition at Lincoln Elementary in Green River, Wyo. March 27. Blue ribbon winners were Shanna Rosser, Vicki Marquez, Sherrie Briggs, Jacee Anderson, Wendy Lambert, Glenna Tinker and Kelly Campbell. Red ribbon winners from Manila were Tiffany Wisenbarger and Melissa Parsons. The Manila LDS Ward held a musical at the LDS chapel on March 31. The choir sang six numbers with the Primary children participating in the last number. The ladies choir sang "Matchmaker" and the men's choir sang "Wish I were a Rich Man." Vocal obligatos were sung by Twila Kenterson and WaNeta Lamb. Sharon Olsen played a flute obligato and Ron Hamblin played a trumpet accompaniment accompani-ment for "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Instrumentals were by Wendy Long, guitar; Stan and Kathy Stewart, organ and piano and Sharon Olson, flute. Bill Nelson played a clarinet medley, accompanied ac-companied by Nancy Nelson. Accompanists for the event were Terry Gutz at the piano and ReNae McPeek at the organ. Barbara Briggs conducted the choir. Choir members presented these three with corsages " ' before the festival. ' The Democratic party held a meeting at the Senior Citizens Center April 2. Jill Taylor, vice chairman, conducted in the absence of Gary Palleson, chairman. chair-man. County spots to be filled this fall are a two year commissioner and a four year commissioner, county clerk, treasurer, one assessor, two justice of the peace and a sheriff. Boundaries for school board districts are being changed and new boundaries will be announced April 7. A mass meeting will be held Monday, May 3. Thursday. April 8 will be the regular meeting of the Manila Town Council. Dr. Hamson, horticulturist from USU, was in Manila April 31. He talked on gardening and care of trees. Andy and Brant Meinrod received the Sacrament confirmation Thursday evening, April 1 at the St. James Catholic Church in Vernal. Bishop Weigand of the Salt Lake City docese was in Vernal for the confirmation celebration. There were 11 young people peo-ple confirmed. Easter services for the Catholic Church will be held in the Dutch John Conference Hall Easter Sunday at 2 p.m. There will be a dinner afterward and everyone is invited to join in the Easter celebration. |
