JV Cafs drop 9-6 game io Spear-Jans The Union Cougar junior varsity team grabbed a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning, but Emery erupted for seven runs in the top of the fourth inning in-ning for a 9 to 6 victory, Friday in Roosevelt. Mike Ross led off with a walk in the bottom of the first inning, moved to second base on a single by Wayne Gingell. advanced to third on a bunt by Bryan Eldredge and scored on a wild pitch. Emery grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning. Hansen was walked and Patterson singled. Hansen scored on an error. Gibbs singled and Huntington Hun-tington netted a bunt to load up the bases. Bush was walked and Patterson darted home for a 2-1 lead. Union gained a unique doubleplay to end the inning. Shorthill flied out to the cen-terfielder cen-terfielder for the second out and the Union player fired the ball to third base for the third out. A fine defensive play was turned in by Ross in the top of the third inning. Peterson singled and Olsen delivered a Vin iA emocVi Kilt t Vua Kulldl U'3C nailciH by Ross, who fired to first base for a double play. The inning ended on a ground out. Ross knocked down the ball on the grass and fired it to first for the final out. The Cats nabbed two runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 3-2 advantage. Ross struck out and Gingell had a hit taken away from him due to a great diving catch by the Emery left fielder. Eldredge was walked and Jubal Anderton reached first base on an error. Rocky Acord was walked to load up the bases and Brown's infield fly was dropped. Eldredge and Anderton scored on the error and gave Union a 3-2 3-2 lead. Emery's Spartans blistered pitchers, Cleveland Murray and knuckleball and curveballer, Jubal Anderton for seven runs in the top of the fourth inning. Emery gained five singles, one double, two walks, one hit batter and a number of errors in the inning. Union cut Emery's lead to three runs at 9 to 6 with three counters in the bottom of the fourth inning. Willie Nickell was walked and Ross singled. N'ickell was tagged out at home plate. Gingell got on base on an error and Eldredge was walked to load up the bases. Anderton singled to drive in Ross and Gingell and Eldredge scored on a single by Acord. Brown struck out for the third out. Both Union and Emery were blanked in the fifth and final inning. ' ' ' r (rf .. ... ... 'A.
