Show .- GOP Gets Major Uintah Positions C. D. Dudley and Orville Swain won county commission posts; Grant Pickup was elected to the school board and, Clair Hopkins was elected state representative in feature - races in Uintah County's general election. Mr. Pickup won by six votes, 177 to 171, over T. Golden Collins in the school board race. Mr. Collins had a six-vote lead until the Walker district came in, giving giv-ing Mr Pickup the victory. Mr. Dudley, Republican, edged Hyrum Slaugh, 1,894 to 1,726, in the four-year county commissioner commission-er contest. Mr. Swain, also a Republican, Re-publican, won over Leo J. Walker, 2,206 to 1,326, in the race for the two-year term. Republican Hopkins defeated Democratic candidate Max Abbott, 2,129 to 1,470, in the state legislative legis-lative post, and Republican Sen. Stringham was unopposed. Uintah County gave George D. Clyde 1,875 votes for governor, Democrat L. G. Romney 742 and J. Bracken Lee 1,074. |
