Show A NEW WHITEWAY ADDS BEAUTY TO ROOSEVELT MAIN STREET Perhaps one of the most tangible evidences of the progress being made by Roosevelt city, was the turning on last Friday evening of the new white way lighting system located on the business section of town. It is now hard to imagine how poorly lighted main street was with the old system that has given way to the new one. Several groups and individuals are collectively responsible for the latest project that has literally transformed main street into a thing of beauty and one that most certainly will draw the praise of all who travel through our city at night Just where and when, the idea of a new whiteway lighting system for Roosevelt originated, is of little concern. Many of us have talked about such a project, and no doubt this had some effect on getting things started. The final analysis brings out the information that the Roosevelt Roose-velt Commercial Club came through with a generous offer of about $6,500 to help finance a project that was estimated would cost between $12,000 and $15,000. With this offer coming to the city council, immediate activity resulted. The mayor and council weTe successful in selling the Utah Highway Department on the existing need and they agreed to pay half of the white way up to $15,000. To the Roosevelt Commercial Club and the State Road Commission must go the first words of praise and thanks from a grateful community for one of the most appealing streets, at ' night, in our state. If those who read this editorial haven't already al-ready driven through Roosevelt at night, take time now and do it you'll be amazed at what you see. A fine assortment of neon signs blend into the new white lights to make a striking impression. im-pression. It is true, the Commercial Club and State Road Department supplied most of the money to insure the project. However, the city financed the labor and hired skilled workmen to install the poles, do the wiring, and hang the globes. Together the supporting support-ing organizations have given us all something that makes any community stand out as one that is constantly looking forward o a more progressive city. All are deserving of any praise that can be thrown their way. |
