Show Hie Leods Republicans To Victory In iHieovy Buelaessie Co. Voting Heber T. Hall Is Only Republican Defeated; Lee Is Third In County; Bennett Has 5-Vote Margin Duchesne County, at one time called a Democratic stronghold, repeated its 1952 turn-about Tuesday when the county's 2,700-odd active voters gave every Republican candidate, except one, a comfortable comfort-able majority. President Dwight D Eisenhower, Senator Wallace F. Bennett, Representative Henry Aldous Dixon and gubernatorial candidate George Dewey Clyde led a victorious Republican ticket that saw Governor J. Bracken Lee run last in the three-man gubernatorial race. " Only Republican casulty in the county was Heber T Hall, beaten 1,791 to 899, by William H. "Bill" Ostler for the four-year county commission term. Democratic Senator District-wise, Republican Harold H. Smith of Wasatch County, carried Duchesne County, but lost to Democrat Glen M. Hatch, also of Wasatch, in the state senatorial race. Smith led 1,381 to 1,254 in Duchesne, but lost out in Wasatch County, 1,412 to 1,181. President Eisenhower and Vice-president Vice-president Richard M. Nixon swept the county with 1,856 votes to only 874 for Adlai E. Stevenson, reaching a landslide proportion of 68 per cent of the presidential vote. In 1952, Mr. Eisenhower won the county 1,960 to 1,240, capturing captur-ing only 60 per cent of the vote. In the county commission race, Mr. Ostler, from early reports, took the five biggest boxes in the county Roosevelt No. 1 and No. 2, Duchesne No. 1 and No. 2 and Myton to insure victory over Mr. Hall. Mr. Ostler's 1,791 votes were more than any Republican except the president. On the western side of the county, B. A. Jacoby, unopposed, won re-election to the school board with 384 votes.
