Show Editorial: Model United Nations By Clive Gary The Model United Nations is a program that is funded by the University of Utah. The purpose of the program is to give participating students a better understanding of basic politics and also give a general history of other countries and the problems they face. Each school that participates in the program is given a country to represent. The participating class picks 13 students1 to represent the country. The students debate on certain issues that face the country, bills, peace talks, war, etc. The students that represent other countries also face similar problems. In my opinion this is a good program because the students get an idea just how different countries face their problems. The Model United Nations has been going on a number of years but this is the first year in a long time that GCHS has received an invitation to participate in the program. This is the last year that the program will be presented because the University of Utah can no longer provide funds for it and I feel that it is a pity that GCHS can only participate one year in this worthwhile program. |
