Show Mike Barker transfers to Salt Lake, new Superintendent named Mike Barker, Park Superintendent at Dead Horse Point State Park for the past seven years has accepted a transfer to Salt Lake City, Utah. He will assume the duties as Park Superintendent at Pioneer Trails State Park. ' With the future development devel-opment of the Pioneer Village, Mike sees a real challenge. When completed, com-pleted, the village will be a significant chapter of American History, that can only be told where the Mormon settlers ended there travel West at the mouth of Emigration Canyon. Can-yon. Gordon Topham will assume the duties as Park Superintendent at Dead Horse Point. Gordon has been Ranger-in-Charge of Escalante Petrified Forest State Reserve for the past year. Mr. Topham has worked on the State Recreation Rec-reation Vehicle program and was Ranger-in-Charge of Edge of the Cedars in Blanding before moving to Escalante. He is a graduate of Southern Utah College. His wife, JoAnn and their three children will reside in the park residence area. Dead Horse Point Visitor Vis-itor Center will open for the season on March 16, 1978. The hours of operation oper-ation will be 9 a.m. to 5 . p.m. daily. There will be a park Guide on duty during these hours to help visitors vis-itors with information. There will be no daily park entrance fee for daily visitors. The campground fee will be $3.00 per night per vehicle. Reservations may be made by calling the park, at 801-259-6511, writing the park at: Box 187, Moab, Utah or by personal contact at the Visitor Center. The point will be used for camping until the weather permits the opening of the Kay-enta Kay-enta camp-loop. It is hoped that it will be open and in operation by Easter weekend. The 1978 Annual "Fun Tag" and "Special Utah Fun Tag" (senior citizens and handicapped) cards are now available at the park Visitor Center. The Fun Tag will cost $10.00 again this year. It will be good until December 31, 1978. The permit will allow daily use of all Utah Parks and a $1.00 per night per vehicle campground camp-ground fee reduction. |
