Show BLM planning river parkway S. Gene Day, BLM District Manager, spoke at Chamber of Commerce meeting Tuesday on a personal pet project of- his: the development of the. Colorado Rr ';r corridor from the Dewey Bridge iV" Potash as a parkway. f In answer to the negative reactions reac-tions of some citizens to the announcement recently that the park at Big Bend oh the river was being closed to campers under the trees, Day said the work being done there is only one facet of a development plan on the river corridor. He exhorted Chamber members not to jump to critical conclusions about the parkway plan. Implementation, Implemen-tation, he said, would lead to development of many camping and picnicking sites along the river. The parkway, linking Colorado National Monument on a scenic tourist route with SE Utah parks, would, if built, bring in a substantial number of visitors, he said. Most sites to be developed, said Day, would be located between White Ranch and Moab. He emphasized em-phasized that the work being done at Big Bend is for the benefit of the general public and is not intended as more big government control of the people. He asked for Chamber support of the development plan, whether it is implemented by Bureau of Land Management, State Parks, or Department of Transportation, which owns substantial road right of way along the river on U-128. |
