Show RODEO... By Dana Lance Hundreds of man hours and about $4,000 are what it takes to put on a high school rodeo. A lot of people think all you have to do to put a rodeo on is to get hold of your stock contractor and he'll take care of the rest. This is not so. The contractor does take care of a big part of the show by providing the bucking and roping stock. The first problem a local club runs into is coming up with enough money to pay for the stock. The cost of the stock for this year's mgn scnool rodeo is $2,600. The next biggest bill which is around $750, is for awards. Then they have to supply the hay for the stock which is costing the club $350. Some other bills are an announcer-$200, announcer-$200, concession help-$200, help-$200, an electric eye timer-$40, and judges $50. Then some of the other things that are needed to finish the show are timers, gatemen, chute help, a photographer, and secretarial secre-tarial help. Now the club is ready for a rodeo. Where does the club come up with the money to pay for this? Well this year, the rodeo club has received a lot of help from the Lions Club and County Commission. Also, they solicited businesses to sponsor chutes and take advertisements in their program. The ticket sales helped a lot. It sounds like a lot of work and it is! But when they finally have the finished fin-ished product, it makes it all worth-while. |
