Show students participate in spelling bee The second annual Des-eret Des-eret News Spelling Bee, sponsored in cooperation with the Utah Education Association, Utah State Board of Education and State PTA, will be held April 14 in Salt Lake City. The state winner will represent Utah at the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. June 5-9. Who knows? Maybe Moab's local winner will represent - the State - of Utah in the National Finals. Moab's local champion speller will be determined in the spelling finals to be held next Tuesday at 7:00 in Star Hall. All students in the 4th through the 8th grades are eligible to compete in the spelling bee. The two elementary schools and the Middle School each send two spelling champions champ-ions to the District Spelldown Spell-down so there will be six students in the competition competi-tion next Tuesday evening in Star Hall vieing for the right to represent Moab in the State meet next month in Salt Lake City. The students representing represent-ing Helen M. Knight . Elementary are Ranya Sullivan and Tracey Cooper. Coop-er. Southeast's winners are Heidi Webb and Michael Gorman. The students representing represent-ing the Middle School will come from a field of six still in competition: Representing Rep-resenting the 6th grade are Scott Cooke and Jim Winfield; 7th grade, Ron Hayes and Madge Stru-ble; Stru-ble; 8th grade, John Winfield and Gina Beals. From these 6 students, two will emerge as the Middle School Spelling winners to compete in the meet at Star Hall on Tuesday. |
