Utah Power and Light Company is proposing to build the additional generating units at the same site as their Units 1 and 2 which are now under construction construc-tion near Castle Dale, Utah. According to Don Pendleton, BLM District Manager, the Richfield District Environmental Project Staff will begin environmental work immediately. im-mediately. The two additional units would produce 400 megawatts mega-watts of electricity each and the power would be transmitted over approximately approxi-mately 116 miles of new transmission lines. Water for the plant is proposed to be taken from Joes Valley Reservoir and coal would be supplied by the Wilberg and Deseret mines. Utah Power and Light Company is planning plan-ning to begin construction of the two additional units in November of 1979. The National Environmental Environ-mental Policy Act requires that an Environmental Statement be prepared when public lands are required for large scale projects such as the Emery Em-ery Plant expansion, Pendleton said. He said that BLM will fulfill its responsibilities under the law as expeditiously as possible. BLM will solicit public comment throughout the , preparation of the Emery Environmental Statement.
