Just to produce (not to write) a book of this size and complexity usually takes at least a year and a half. It took a purchasing agent 60 days and more than 20 interviews to find a printer who could handle 1 Vi million books on such short notice. It also took 2,490,000 pounds of recycled paper for the test of the book and 123,000 pounds of durable, hard to tear paper for the cover. Such decisions as type size, cuts from the manuscript, re-writing chapters, art specs (specifications (specifica-tions describing age, hair style, clothing and position of all human figures wanted in illustrations) sales and marketing, warehouse inventories, blueprints and plates used on lithograph presses and binding machines are almost beyond the comprehension of someone browsing through the new "Worlds to Explore: Handbook for Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts." There are now 5 worlds that Girl Scouts are exploring: The World of Well-being, The World of the Arts, The World of the Out-of-Doors, The World of People and The World of Today and Tomorrow. All through the new handbook is a little character known as Suzy Safety. Whenever Suzy Safety is pictured she will be reminding girls to do something the safe way. The new handbooks are available through Miller's Clothing, Cloth-ing, our Girl Scout Equipment Agency in Moab. Miller's Clothing is one of 1800 such equipment agencies throughout the United States. |
