Show Standard Kins Top, Award fit USPA Convention The Roosevelt Standard has received Utah's highest awa-d for distinguished civic service during 1952. This is the Community Com-munity Leadership trophy annually an-nually given to a weekly newspaper news-paper by Utah State Agricultural Agricultur-al college. Announcement of the award was made at the convention oi the Utah State Press Association Associa-tion last weekend in Salt Lake City by Dr. Carlton Culmsee, dean of the USAC school of arts and sciences and head of the iournalism division. He presented present-ed to Editor Cliff Memmott the certificate of award. The shield-shaped shield-shaped walnut plaque with a bronze plate bearing the name of the paper is now being made. Dean Culmsee praised the all-around all-around journalistic excellence of the Standard, but mentioned particularly the forceful and readable front page editorials and the strong news coverage that included many stories fostering fos-tering worthwhile civic pro-jects. pro-jects. He commented on the high moral tone of Utah papers ard their eagerness to assist in community com-munity betterment. Aiding m the judging were Rov Gibson of the Nephi Times-News and Chas. Claybaugh of the Brigham City news and Journal, winners of the plaque the past two years. |
