Show Honey Crop Was Off In Year 1951; 1950 Was Top Year Uintah Basin beekeepers report re-port that the honey crop from what would generally be th I southern part of Duchesne and I Uintah counties had large! been a failure in 1951, states George F. Knowlton, extension entomologist. Honey yields were reported as varying from 12 to 25 pounds per colony, with some going up to 35 pounds of harvested honey. Mr. Knowlton states that he was informed that the best yields had occurred in the northern part of these two counties, with best yields there running from 75 to 100 pounds per colony. In general, the yield was much less favorable in 1951 than the bumper crop harvested from the Uintah Basin in 1950. The 1950 crop was reported to be the best in years, with only two or three areas failing to produce high honey yields, as far as information secured during dur-ing that season indicated, ac-cording ac-cording to Mr. Knowlton. |
