Show It's Union And Uintah En Championship So No man knoweth the outcome of Friday night's classic that will take place at Union High School, but this thing is positively pos-itively sure a record crow'i of basketball fans from Eastern Duchesne County and all of Uintah County will be there to see two fine basketball teams in action. For the Cougar's from Union it will be a battle to prove their win at Vernal back on Jan. 25 was no fluke, even though it was only one precious point. And for the Redmen from Ute-ville, Ute-ville, it will be a determined effort to end this business of not getting into the state tournament tourna-ment a pleasure they hav2 been denied for a number of years. At Vernal a month ago, Coach Glen Allred's team looked like real champs for 20 minutes as they ran up a 16-point lead at the half, only to see cagey Marcus Mar-cus Garrett, Roosevelt High coach of last year, shift to a zone defense and stop the Cougars Cou-gars in their tracks and wipe away that 16-point margin and almost stage an unbelievable upset. So the battle will be on and don't let anyone tell you differently. Unconfirmed reports from Union Un-ion have it that Allred will lead off with Ken Nickell, Gwen Bodfly, John Benson, Byrell Lamb and Scott Nickell five lads with speed and the ability to hit from in or out. It was (Continued on Back Page) Basketball (Continued from page 1) Lamb who was sensational at Vernal, but since that time has spent much of his time on the bench. If these kids can't solve Garrett's defense, then maybe the Utes will go to the tourney. This writer won't make any predictions on the outcome of the game, except that it'll be worth the price and effort to come on down to Union Hign Friday evening at 6:45 and see a pair of good ball games B teams meet at that time in a preliminary. |
