Jensen County Agricultural Agent Our county alfalfa school is being held Thursday, March 6, in the Myton L.D.S. Church. There will be both morning and afternoon sessions. All phases ' of alfalfa seed production will be discussed, including insect control, weed control, cultural practices, and pollination by I bees. I Everyone interested in alfalfa seed production or honey production pro-duction is invited to attend. Now is a good time to plan your cropping program and obtain ob-tain seed for spring planting. Following are some recommended recommend-ed varieties for this area: CORN SILAGE For lower elevations in the county such as Duchesne, Arcadia and Roosevelt Roos-evelt areas, Ohio C 38, Port Walco 100, Utahybrid 680, or. Utahybrid 544. For higher elevations ele-vations such at Mt. Emmons, Neola, etc., Port Walco 90, Min-hybrid Min-hybrid 301, and K.S.6. ALFALFA Ranger variety is the best for this area. BARLEY Velvon; or where the soil is especially good, .the new Bonneville variety is recommended. rec-ommended. OATS Uton or Overland. SPRING WHEAT Lemhi, Federation or Baart. PASTURE MIXTURES ' These will vary with soil and water conditions. On good and well drained soil, we recom- mend two clovers and two grasses grass-es chosen from the following: Red' Clover, Lidano Clover, Al-cite Al-cite Clover, Orchard Grass, Smooth Brome Grass or Tall Meadow Oat Grass. For damp alkali soils some of the following follow-ing may be used: Strawberry Clover, Reed Canary Grass, Tall Wheat Grass or Sweet Clover. Clo-ver. We strongly urge the use of high quality seed. It is certainly certain-ly poor economy to use seed of low germination ' or which contains con-tains weeds. The purchase of certified seed, with a label showing purity, germination, etc., will be your assurance that you know what you are getting. |
