In 1900 the tax rate per person was $3.88, while in 1952 it is $472. This is for every man, woman and child. Probably one reason we don't realize the seriousness of the tax-take is because of all taxes are paid direct nd is taken as an indirect tax which most of us are not conscious con-scious of. I'm sure those fortunate enough to be on this trip will be repaid in many ways. Many things of interest in the way of improved agricultural practices will be noted on this tour. F&R Doane says now is the time to put your cattle business in order so that you can take setbacks set-backs if they come. 1. Whittle down your debts so that annual payments can b met more easily. 2. Improve your ranges through sage brush removal, re-seeding, re-seeding, water control and good : grazing practices. 3. Establish productive meadows mea-dows by leveling, irrigating, using us-ing fertilizer, and good seeding , practices. - .4. Avoid over-stocking your fange. It is easy to carry herds in good years. Conditions will not always be so ideal. This was proved by the Southwest's drought. . v 5. Take sure profits rather than speculate. Government controls con-trols keep cattle prices frob going go-ing up, but do' not prevent them, from going down. 6. Cull out old cows which could not stand a severe winter or long drought.
