Dalgleish MYTON (Special) Tragedy struck this community Sunday, shortly afternoon, when a small farm home about 3 miles east and north of Myton was devastated devas-tated by the loss of a husband and father. Lorimer Wilford itowley, 38, accompanied by his two small children, Dermis and Glenna Mae, had gone to the Duchesne river, where he started start-ed to open a water hole in the ice so his stock could have water. wa-ter. Warmer weather had weakened weak-ened the vast expanse of apparently ap-parently thick ice and as Mr. Rowley chopped the partly frozen froz-en water hole, the ice cracked, plunging him into the deep and swiftly moving icy water. Seeing his fathers fingers still clinging to the edge of the ice, Dennis left his tiny sister on the river bank and ran with all speed to their home about V2 mile distant, to get his mother. When they again reached the river, there was no sign of Mr. Rowley as the extremely swift current had sucked him under the ice. Neighbors and townsfolk upon up-on hearing of the accident, rushed rush-ed to the scene to give assistance. assist-ance. Sheriff Arzy Mitchell was called and crews were at once put to work cutting a channel of ice from the river. But when darkness descended, they had not been successful in finding the missing man. The search was halted and plans made tj resmue work at daybreak. Power saws for ice cutting and larger crews were on hand Monday morning to resume the anxious search. Mr. Rowley's father. Wilford M. Rowley, and a brother, Mai-ion Mai-ion H. Rowley, both of Murray, upon being notified of the. accident, ac-cident, immediately rJrove to Myton, arriving Sunday evening to join in the search and to comfort com-fort the bereaved wife and children. chil-dren. Mr. Rowley was born Oct. 12 1913 at Raymond, Alberta, Canada, Can-ada, a son of Wilford M. "and Julia Irene Hardy Rowley. H3 spent his youth at Murrav, Utah. He married Glenna Silvey, of Midvale. July 21, 1937. in Salt Lake City, and later, on Octocer 4, 1939, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They moved to Bennett two years ago from Murray, and in April 1951 they purchased a ranch near Myton, where they were living at the time of the fatal accident. He is survived by his widow, four children, Shirlene Faye, Carolyn Gaye. Dennis Lorimer, and Glenna Mae Rowley, all of Myton; his father, Wilford M. Rowley, Murray; two brothers. Marion H. Rowley and Delmer D. Rowley, Murray; two sisters, Mrs. John Blaine, Roosevelt; and Mrs. LaMar Bevered&e, Pleasant Grove. |
