Show Roosevelt Ward M ; IM Win Title; inter Gfiurcli Play Last Thursday night at the Elementary gym, the Roosevelt Ward M-Men basketball team defeated a stubborn and scrappy scrap-py Ballard team 38-26, to win the Roosevelt Stake championship champion-ship and the right to meet the Uintah Stake winner. Naples Ward, in a division playoff on Monday, Feb. 18. in the flight to a place in the All-Church tournament in Salt Lake next month. The two' Uintah Basin teams met -as per appointment at thj Union High School gym Mon-1 day night, where the Roosevelt church boys, who are coached by Harold Fredrickson, a hlgn school and college star of a few years back, met and humbled hum-bled the Naples team 41-28. By virtue of their win Monday, the local team became eligible to meet the Waterloo Ward in Wells Stake at the East Mill Creek gym at 7:10 p. m., last night, Feb. 20. Don Jones, talented basketball player who preped at Nephi High School, led the Roosevelt team in their successful conquest of Ballard and Naples by scoring 11 and 13 points respectively. He was ejected from the Ballard Bal-lard game early in the second half for excessive fouling. Keith Luke and Billy McLea wer? runners-up to Jones in scoring both games. The entire personnel of the Roosevelt Ward M-Men team is Merlin Fenn, Scott Edrington, Billy McLea, Don Jones. Keith Luke, John Gale, Bob Johnston, John Zimmerman and Lloyd Ostler. Their coach is Harold Fredrickson. The team left at noon Wednesday to enter the tournament. |
