BLODGETT PORTLAND, ORE. -- A former West Bountiful man and his 14-year-old son are recovering re-covering in a Portland, Ore. hospital from severe burns and injuries suffered in a plane crash. DR. JOHN Alan Page, 43, son of Mrs. Jane Page, West Bountiful, and a graduate of Bountiful High School, was pilot of the ill-fated plane that crashed and burned June 27 in a remote, wilderness area about ab-out 25 miles east of LaGrande, Ore. He and his son, John, age 14, were seriously injured in the mishap and suffered burns over 30 to 40 percent of their bodies, according to Mrs. Jane Page. She said they are recuperating and in improved condition at the Oregon Burn Center at Emanual Hospital in Portland. SHE SAID the plane apparently appa-rently hit a downdraft, causing Mr. Page, pilot of the four-passenger four-passenger aircraft, to make a forced landing. SHE SAID they were pulled , , ' f ' JOHN ALAN PAGE from the burning craft by Peter Slocum and Jim Reese who also gave their clothing to keep i the two injured persons warm. Flames, she said, burned the clothing from both injured men before they could be rescued. After waiting through the night to be rescued, Slocum walked more than 15 miles to get help for the two injured occupants. Slocum and Rees were not seriously hurt. SLOCUM AND Reese reportedly re-portedly built a fire to keep the four as warm as possible. The men however, spent a miserable miser-able nigh, before being rescued late the following day , The plane, piloted by Mr, Pace left Hermiston (Ore.) ao-ouf ao-ouf 7:30 p.m. to a remote area of a nearby mountain range, apparently looking for sites to backpack and hunt.
