Show Mainly ill For Seniors The 'poor widower7 really has it made By JOHN T. WATTS Copley News Service Dear John: I see all kinds of things in the papers, pa-pers, magazines and TV about the plight of the "poor widows." How about the poor widowers? And I'm not talking about money problems. My wife, bless her soul, has been gone about a year and I'm still going around in a blue funk. I can't seem to get myself organized. Sometimes I'm drowned in loneliness. I don't see where anybody any-body is offering to help widowers. I guess they are supposed to be the stronger sex that's a laugh and stand on their own feet. So where do we lonely men get off? An Unblessed Unb-lessed Single Dear Unblessed: You get off where you want to now. You are on your own. The world is your oyster. You can get up when you want to (unless you work, which you didn't say). You can go to bed when you wish. Take a nap when you want. You can stay out all night. You can even smoke cigars in the house. The "poor widower" really re-ally has it made. In case you haven't noticed or read the statistics, there are many single women for every man. You have beaten beat-en the odds. So if you are lonely that is your fault. If going around in a blue funk means that you are still in mourning, you are making a big mistake. I assume you had nothing to do with her passing away and that you were a good and faithful faith-ful husband while she was here. So why the protracted protract-ed mourning? Life is for the living and you can do nothing for her now. I'm sure she would be the first to say that you should get out and mix with the living and maybe even get married mar-ried again, if you are so inclined. in-clined. Actually loneliness is easier for a man to overcome over-come than for a woman, for obvious reasons. So get off your duff and quit feeling sorry for yourself. your-self. I suppose the widows will take angry pen in hand and tell their side. Dear John: Some weeks ago you had an article in the El Serena Star News regarding the use of the Social So-cial Security number. I accidentally ac-cidentally destroyed the article, which I intended to keep for future reference. I realize that in some instances in-stances it's necessary for a person to use his Social Security Se-curity number, but I question ques-tion it in the case of the following: I'm contemplating changing my Medicare supplementary insurance coverage to another company. com-pany. On the application they want my Social Security Secur-ity number. However, my Medicare health card and all records show my husband's hus-band's number with the proper letter at the end. I'm wondering why this should be required. I enjoy your column very much. It's very informative. informa-tive. Keep up the good work. Mrs. E.T. Dear Mrs. E.T.: If the insurance in-surance company requires your number you'd better get it. In any event, you may need it for many other reasons. By contacting Social So-cial Security you can get a Mogcleg weigh fourth The powerful flight muscles mus-cles account for as much as one-fourth of a' bird's weight.
