Show Can Redskins Repeat Title By PETE FRITCHIE This town's Redskins seem headed for the playoffs, and maybe even the Superbowl, again. History teaches that the odds are against two straight years in the bowl. BUT WASHINGTON looks like Washington of 1982. That comeback against a Los Angeles Raider team, with top personnel, made up for the loss to Dallas on opening day. The Redskins overcame a 15-point deficit in something over 7 minutes (with a little help from the Raiders on a kickoff recovery). And Dallas and the Raiders are probably two of the four toughest teams in the NFL. (The other might be Forty-Niners.) THE NEW York Jets were also expected to be one of this year's powers and niight--by the end of the season-be very tough. Miami is always tough and could get "up" for the playoffs. But no other team looks much better than the Redskins at this stage of the season. Had the Redskins lost to the Raiders, Raid-ers, as they appeared to be doing until halfway through the fourth quarter on Oct. 1, that would have meant defeats by the two powerhouses, Dallas Dal-las and the Raiders, and could have been a psychological handicap. SO THAT comeback victory was of immense importance to the Redskins. And it made two games the Raiders have lost this year they felt they should have won. And they probably should have won them. In the Washington contest they also won without an injured Marcus Mar-cus Allen. |
