SMURTHWAITE Incumbent Is in Race for Utah County Recorder Thelma Vest Smurthwaite of Payson, Utah, today announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination and election to the office of Utah County Recorder. She is the incumbent candidate and is now completing her second term. Mrs. Smurthwaite is a native of Utah County, born, reared and a lifetime continuous resident of Payson, Utah. She received her education from the Payson City Schools and the Brigham Young University. She taught school for six years before filling a mission for the LDS Church in Texas and Louisiana. She is former lady vice president presi-dent of the Utah Association of County Officials, and at the present pres-ent time is one of fifteen members mem-bers on the national board of direotors of 'the National Association Assoc-iation of County Recorder's and Clerks. She served for twelve years on the board of directors of the Utah Valley Hospital. She has been affiliated with many business, professional and civic clubs, as well as having held many positions in the ward and stake in the LDS Church. In her announcement she says, "I do wish to express appreciation for the opportunity the taxpayers have given me to serve as county coun-ty recorder. I have sincerely and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my work. I have worked hard to make the office an outstanding outstand-ing one and one that is informative inform-ative and helpful to you the general gen-eral public. I firmly believe that a public office is indeed a public pub-lic trust and the public official is a representative of the people, and that courtesy, efficiency and devotion to the job and public for the benefit of all is vitally important and necessary." |
