Show Diamond Gives Good Advice To Businessmen at Meeting Tuesday at Alpine Villa Gri!! "You help yourself most of all when you help your community," said Bernie R. Diamond last Tuesday. Tues-day. Mr. Diamond, Manager-Secretary of the Ogden Chamber of Commerce was guest speaker at the dinner meeting of the Associated Assoc-iated Businessmen of Pleasant Grove, held at noon at Alpine Villa Grill. Association president Junius A. West was in charge. Communities are fundamentally fundamental-ly a collection of "dollar changing" chang-ing" people, tlie speaker explained, explain-ed, and need outside dollars to keep the community wheels turning. Sources of outside dollars dol-lars are tourist trade and conventions, con-ventions, retail trade through adequate shopping centers and manufacturing and specialized industry. in-dustry. New dollars change hands about 11 times on the average before they leave the community, Mr. Diamond stated. If a community is to remain prosperous, there must be one paying job for every three people, the speaker said; and there are three types of .people in every locality lo-cality those who "live off" the community, those who "live in the community" and people who "live for the community." For growth and development we need people in all three categories. The speaker was strongly of the opinion that what is needed most in Pleasant Grove is a strong Chamber of Commerc;', with separate committees to promote pro-mote such essential activities as Strawberry Days, Retail Sales Promotion, New Industries, Adequate Ade-quate Roads, Labor Supply, Housing, Hous-ing, Raw Materials available and Transportation services. To accomplish this these are the important essentials, the speaker said Leadership and Organization. Or-ganization. And after these are secured the next important essential es-sential is a "Program of Work" and t his program can only be set up after a complete survey of the community's personal and material resources. After the survey, the next essentials es-sentials are to decide what is wanted, how to prepare for it and how to consumate your plans. "Nothing is more important for a businesman than to work for the development of his community," commun-ity," Mr. Diamond concluded. |
