Show First Frost of Year Hits PI. Grove Last Wednesday A cold north wind blew for most of the day last Wednesday. The wind died with the sun, which set clear and cold. Next morning the official government thermometer thermom-eter stood at 29 degrees, the coldest cold-est morning of the season. Things generally looked white Thursday morning; but the silvery sil-very sheen turned to black as farmers and gardeners surveyed the loss. Beans, squash, and tomatoes suffered considerable damage and flowers growing in the open were nipped. Old Timers say that the freeze was about ten days earlier than usual this fall; but it takes the early and late to make the average. aver-age. As usually happens after the first freeze, things warmed tip again and the weather week ended end-ed with typioal late September weather warm days and cool nights. Predictions for the next few days call for partly cloudy skies, continued mild temperatures and possible light rain showers. Statistics for the week ending Sept. 29, 1958. Date High Low Pre.
