Show f ""v f j& y k Mike Murphy became an Eagle Scout last week. Seventh grade student wins Eagle Scout rank Michael Glenn Murphy of Park City reached his goal of becoming an Eagle Scout at age 12 last week in an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony at the Park City Stake Chapel. Michael is a seventh grade student at the Treasure Mountain Middle School. He is the son of Michael and Lucy Murphy. He is a deacon in the Park City Stake and the first scout in Troop 909 to reach the rank of Eagle. In 1983, as a Cub Scout, Michael was a nominee for National Youth Representative. He holds the Arrow of Light Award rank, the Cub Souct World Conservation Award and the LDS Gospel in Action award. He has participated in school fundraising projects, the city library book brigade and three Park City Clean Up Days. His Eagle service project was fulfilled by his work for the Utah and International Special Olympics Games. Michael attained the rank of Eagle within 22 months with 31 merit badges, 10 more than needed. He is currently senior patrol leader for his troop. He plays piano and percussion and likes skiing and skateboarding. This summer he will attend the National Scout Jamboree in Virginia. "Mike has exemplified Scout spirit and leadership," said Scoutmaster Scout-master Brad Pentelute. "I'm very proud to be associated with this fine young man." |
