He has been attending advanced physics and math classes at the University of Utah for two years while completing his high school education. Still, this senior class valedictorian claims he is both excited and a little nervous about starting school at Stanford University next fall. Stanford Stan-ford is located in California on the border of what is known as the Silicon Valley, the technological capital of the country. He is planning to study engineering. Elkins entered the Park City school system in the sixth grade after moving to Park City from Albuquerque, Albuquer-que, New Mexico. Of his education here he said, "Well, I got into Stanford. That's saying something. "If you are willing to work, there are people here (at Park City High School) to help you. The faculty has been excellent in my experience," Elkins said. Two teachers in particular impressed im-pressed Elkins along the way. He singled out Captain C.W. Smith, who retired last year, and John Krenkel as having made special contributions to his education. In addition to his strictly academic achievements, Elkins served as vice-president of the student body this year and as captain of the tennis team. In fact, his track record on the tennis courts during high school was as impressive as his performance in the classroom. He played his way to the top of the state 1A singles tournament last year. Chris is the son of George and Judy Elkins of Park City. He will address the senior class Friday at graduation. |
