Life will imitate art when annual pagent opens June 10 The town of American Fork, near F'rovo, will be the scene of the Utah Pageant of the Arts when it opens its season June 10. The show, which has been described as a unique arts experience, will run through July 19 (except Sundays and July 4). The pageant itself is based on the tableau vivant, a French phase which means living pictures. Contemporary and classical artworks will be brought to life on the stage of the American Fork High School theater as actors from throughout the Wasatch Front portray the people in the paintings and sculptures in a professional style that has become a trademark of the pageant. "Children in Art" will be featured in this year's pageant as the children in the paintings of Edward Henry Potthast, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Pablo Picasso, Francisco de Goya, George Romney and John Singleton Copley come to life on the stage. In addition, young people created in the sculpture of Thomas Crawford and an 18th-century portrait of child prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will be represented. "A Salute to 75 Years of Scouting in America" will be expressed in four staged paintings by Norman Rockwell and paintings by Harold N. Anderson and J.C. Leyendecker. Selections new this year will be tableaux of a trio of winged victory sculptures, a Iiadro porcelain and a gold-lipped painted glass. One scene will originate from the J. Paul Getty Museum in California. It spotlights an unusual pair of ebony-and-gold lamps and a matching match-ing clock that are housed in the museum. The final scene of the pageant will be the patriotic "Freedom Tribute" and the "Prayer at Valley Forge." The prayer is taken from a painting by Arnold Friberg, a native Utahn. In addition to the pageant, exhibits and seminars will be open to patrons before and after the show. Among them are seminars on the i - : i ...i. . i .....
