Show Synthesizer artist to open concert season at ParkWest i 1 fi t English rocker Howard Jones will open this summer's ParkWest concert series with a program this Monday, June 10, at 7:30 p.m. The series is presented by United Concerts, Pepsi and PM Magazine. Howard Jones was born in Southhampton, England, and began his musical training at a young age. At 19 he enrolled in music college, but soon abandoned higher education educa-tion fand his pursuit of a musical )career when he found himself in; frequent artistic conflicts with the ' faculty. His' discovery of synthesizers led him back to music. He began to write songs and was soon playing gigs around his home town of High Wycombe, where he established a following. "New Song" and "Human's Lib" followed. Paul McCartney and Andy Summers Sum-mers have praised Jones' work, while Eric Clapton, during a recent press conference, named Jones as his greatest modern influence. Former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has called him "the best thing to come out of England in a long time." And at this year's Grammy Awards, Jones was asked to play alongside Thomas Dolby, , Herby Hancock and Stevie W onder. .i Artists who try something different dif-ferent rarely bridge the gap to exception.- Somehow, Jones has found a human sound among the stacks of circuitry in his synth kit, a sound that listeners all over Europe and the United States have connected with.
