Show High school adds :, cross-country program N n The recent creation of a Hi cross-country running program at Park City High School "should j ,c have a major impact on distance j ,,! and other runners," according to Bill Kahn, who will assume i coaching responsibilities for the new team. "This will complement our spring track program and it S ' - should really help improve the 1 lT quality of our runners, from quarter-milers on up," said b) Kahn. t; When the Park City School Board officially discussed the program at its May 29 meeting, it was provided with evidence of considerable interest in cross country running at the high school. "Before I made the request, I made sure there was enough 5 interest," said Kahn, who also j coaches the track team. "I presented a list of 30 kids who j would like to participate." I Kahn will not carry 30 athletes on the team, however, when it officially begins training in late J August. He said he will probably f name eight boys and eight girls to Jf the squad. "In cross country, only seven runners can compete in a meet, j and only the low five times count," he said. Although a schedule won't be finalized until a regional meeting of administrators in June, Kahn expects a full slate of meets agaist 1-A and 2-A schools when Park City makes its debut in cross country running this autumn. According to Kahn, home meets will be held on local golf courses. |
