Show County sets Olympic sum ; . . ,, , : The Utah Winter Olympics study group won't be getting as much money as it requested from Summit County. But last week, the County Commission voted to give the group $3,000. The Salt Lake Winter Games Organizing Committee asked the county for $10,000 to help pay for the feasibility study on a possible 1996 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake. In response, the county held a public hearing on the games on May 22. Commissioner Stan Leavitt said there was no strong sentiment for or against the Games at the hearing. Regarding the appropriation, Leavitt suggested, "Let's let that sucker die. We don't want 'em." . Cliff Blonquist said, "We said we would support the games if the public consensus was to support, but we didn't say we would give $10,000." He said the county's budgeting ; problems were a factor in deciding the funding. "Let's give 'em $3,000 because they will come back and ask for more later," he concluded. |
