ParkWest will be home to Lutherans The sign went up Sunday, so now it's official: Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church will build its own facility on property facing Utah Highway 228 near the entrance to ParkWest. On Sunday morning a congregation congrega-tion of nearly 100 people stepped lightly on land that hours before had pastured horses. In an outdoor service, church members celebrated the future of the group and at the conclusion, the new sign proclaiming the land the future site of Shepherd of the Mountains Church was unveiled. Pastor David Krueger is ready for the challenge. "Last winter representatives from the Lutheran Church of America came out here to look at land possibilities for our congregation. A member of our group who works in the real estate business spent a great deal of time with them looking for a suitable parcel. Last spring they closed the deal on the 3.2 acre parcel near the entrance to ParkWest. Our challenge now is to raise money to repay the loan and buy back the land from the LCA and start to fund-raise to build a church. I'm excited about the future and seeing these things happen." Because the parcel is larger land than needed for a church building the congregation presently is exploring explor-ing ways to buy all the property and build a retreat center there in addition to a chapel. Since the Lutheran Church in Utah has no such center at present a number of large Salt Lake congregations have expressed ex-pressed an interest in helping financially to see the entire project become a reality. |
