W&:V;f photo by Christopher Smart The intersection of Swede Alley and Heber Avenue has become a bottleneck recently with road work and construction traffic. Belt Route to open by October... Really! Will Main Street be ready for Art Festival? Will the Belt Route be ready by winter? And when will traffic congestion be relieved at the intersection of Swede Alley and Heber Avenue? According to Community Development Develop-ment Director Mike Vance, the answer to those questions is yes, yes and soon, respectively. Vance said the utility work on Main Street will be complete by the opening of the Art Festival on Aug. 4. However the final paving overlay will not be finished until September. One of the Silver Mill tunnels, now under construction, will be complete by Art Festival weekend. Bridges are planned to span the remaining tunnel during the Festival, Vance said. At the lower end of Main Street, Gibbons and Reed crews are working to install a water line under Heber Avenue, according to Vance. The water line will replace the one from the Masonic Hill water tank that was destroyed when the hill sloughed away last fall. The Swede Alley connection to the Belt Houte cannot be built until the water line is in, according to Vance. He explained that work on Swede Alley will begin following Art Festival. The new Swede Alley should be ready for traffic by mid-September. Meanwhile the current cur-rent Swede Alley will be open for traffic, Vance said. The Belt Route should be ready for traffic at the time of completion of the Swede Alley connection. Vance said that the Belt Route needs only a final layer of asphalt to be ready for use. On yet another city project, Vance said that sewer work along Kearns Boulevard by the cemetery is almost complete. At that time, he added, Gibbons and Reed will install curbs and gutters as well as a bike path there. Sewer construction work along Reams Boulevard is expected to continue into October. Sewer line constmction will move toward the intersection of Kearns and Utah Highway 224 as well as moving east in front of Park City High School. |
