It plays on Friday, July 27 at 2 p.m. (for 25 cents) and 7 p.m. (for 50 cents). -The Blue Mouse, 260 East 100 South, features a mixed bag this week. Woody Allen stars in his classic "Annie Hall" with Diane Keaton. Kurosawa's "Hidden Fortress" is being billed as the film that inspired "Star Wars." And "Cartoon Taboos" is a collection of cartoons from the . Twenties to the Forties, with sexual overtones and racial stereotypes that make them unique in modern-day eyes. The Media Center, 20 South West Temple, concludes its series with W.C. Fields and John Ford. In "My Little Chickadee," Fields is teamed with the only co-star who could rival him Mae West. The film plays r July 27 at 9:30 p.m., July 28 at 7:30 p.m. and July 29 at 5:30 and 9:30 p. The John Ford collection concludes with "The Searchers," with perhaps John Wayne's greatest performance as the near-psychotic Ethan Edwards. It plays July 27 at 7:30 p.m., July 28 at 5:30 and 9:30 p.m., and July 29 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $2.50, or $3.50 for both films. MUSIC -r''v The Utah Symphony presents f JJ "The Golden Age of Hollywood" c.-iy featuring movie music and guest conductor Elmer Bernstein. (He wrote the "Magnificent Seven" s music that also became famous as the "Marlboro Man" theme.) Also featured are pianists Dorothy Jonas and Joshua Pierce, and music from "The Ten Commandments," "Adventures of Robin Hood" and "Heavy Metal." The program plays at Symphony Hall, July 27 at 8 p.m., and Snowbird on July 28 at 5 p.m. Ticket prices are $10-12-15. A punk-rock extravaganza on July 26 will feature BKG, Cause for Alarm, Let's Barbeque, and Septic Death. It will play at the Indian Center, 120 West 300 South, at 8 p.m. Count Basie's band begins a three-part Big Band series at Symphony Hall on July 26. Reserved-seat tickets are $7 and $10 for the show, beginning at 8 p.m. Symphony Hall is at 123 West South Temple. Willie Dixon's Chicago All-Stars Band will appear at the Zephyr Club, 301 South West Temple, on July 26-28. Sheena Easton appears "For Your Eyes Only," at the Dee Events Center in Ogden on July 30. Showtime is 8 p.m. Amnesia appears at Trolley Square on July 28 at 8 p.m. The band plays at the Sixth South Amphitheatre and is broadcast live on KUER FM-90. The band Judas Priest will rock the Salt Palace on July 31 . THEATRE ZU The new version of "This is the Place," Park City's centennial musical, plays every Friday and J Saturday through Sept. 2. Shows at ;,V- Main Street's Egyptian Theatre and "' -' . admission is $4.50. This week the show stars Ann MacQuoid, Richard Scott and Lesie Luyken. The Intermountain Actors Ensemble brings you the third year of its Park City Shakespeare Festival, this time at the ice rink of the Park City Resort Center. "A Midsummer Night's Dream" plays Thursdays through Aug. 23. "Twelfth Night" is featured on Fridays through Aug. 24. And "Richard HI" plays on Saturdays through Aug. 25. Curtain is 8 p.m. Prices are $7 for adults, $6 for students-seniors-Kimball Art Center members, and $15 for all three shows. "How the West Was Sung," a dinner theater revue, plays Saturday at Prospector Square. Dinner begins at 5:30 followed by the show at 7 p.m. The cost for both is $14.95 for adults and $5.95 for kids. The Twenties melodrama "The Bat" opens this week at Theatre 138, 138 South Second East. It plays Thursday - Saturday through Aug. 18 at 8 p.m. Utah theater's most demented satire, "Saturday's Voyeur," returns. The Salt Lake Acting Company production plays at 8 p.m., nightly through August, except Mondays and July 30-31. The theater is 168 West Fifth North. For information, call 363-0525. "The Gathering," a musical history of Salt Lake and its diverse cultures, stars Robert Peterson and will be presented at the Triad Center's 2300-seat outdoor amphitheatre nightly, except Sunday, through July 28. "Fiddler on the Roof" plays at the Sundance Resort at 8:30 p.m. on odd clendar dates through Sept. 3. The children's star show, "Circus of the Stars and Planets" plays at the Hansen, Saturday at 11 a.m. |
