Show Festival f i is set I to roll The skeptics said it couldn't be done: The Main Street construction project could never be cleaned up in time to host an art festival on August 4 and 5. But Festival Director Sean Toomcy had faith. Even when the broken sidewalks were piled up in the middle of the street he never waivered. "It will be ready," he said. According to Toomey, the only impact people will notice will be positive because residents of Old Town and Deer Valley will be able to exit on the new Belt Route. However there is still one obstacle to hurdle. The Main Street Mall tunnels which are currently under construction, will have to be bridged to accommodate pedestrian traffic. Toomey has asked the developer, Randy Fields, to cover the construction construc-tion zone with a 30-foot-wide plyboard bridge. Other than the section in front of the Main Street Mall, the street will be ready to welcome the hordes of visitors expected at the Festival. Two hundred ten visual artists will exhibit their work on the street and musicians will perform outdoors on stages at the Kimball Art Center Plaza and across from the Treasure Mountain Inn. There will also be food booths located at strategic intervals up and down the street. According to Toomey, the art is better than ever because there were 150 more applicants to chose from and there will be a greater variety of entertainment. Main Street Mall tunnels will be bridged for Art Festival. d3 I I Xfm,, l l I V i i v - -y gn i -r r-" . - . , ' ' |
