Show uu Batteries of Artillery Stationed , on Mesa Above El Paso. f PRECAUTIONARY MOVE ft Cavalry and Infantry Held Under Un-der Orders for Instant Mobilization, EL PASO, April 14 Batteries of' 4.7 artillery were dragged onto the high mesa overlooking the city and Mexico last night by caterpillar tractors trac-tors in a night attack practice maneu- ( ver ordered by Brigadier General J George Bell. Jr. The results of the1 S maneuver were declared by General I Bell in an authorized statement from headquarters today to have been high-' ly satisfactory. A battery of artillery has been stationed on the mesa for months and the additional field pieces were rushed there in what was termed ' a precautionary maneuver last nighL One of the tractors failed to climb the sleep grade of the mesa. In addition! to the artillery practice, cavalry and ; infantry regiments were held under or- ' & ders for instant mobilization as a part of the practice. Provost guards were stationed around the hotel where a dance in hon-J hon-J or of Brigadier General Francis Ker-h Ker-h nan was in progress and guards pa- trolled in front of the telegraph offices Hi and around General Bert s club. Pro vost officers were scouting for a supposed sup-posed bomb-maker in the Mexican quarter quar-ter late in the night, but failed to locate lo-cate him. oo |
