Show I POOR WRESTLING CONTEST I K RFRFFMFn RY"K 0" 11V I BARRIEAU-TORRES FIGHT Hl (By Billy Glasmann.) H In one of the poorosL wrestling bouts H ever pulled off in Ogdon, Jack Har- M bertson, claimant of tho intermounlain H light heavyweight championship, pin- 1 ned Charlie Hackenschmldt of Chicago H to the mat in two straight falls, the H first coming in 16 minutes and tho sec- 1 ond in 1 jninuto. The card as a whole H was not worth the money that the H sport-loving fans kicked through with. H Tho wrestling game in Ogden is just H what the fans say, "What's tho uso in M going? When Harbertson wrestles you know beforehand he is going to M win." Tho wrestling match last eve- fl ning was the poorest exhibition the M writer has ever seen. I do not blamo M Hackenschmidt for wanting to make H gome easy money, but I" cannot seo Hl why the promoters pick such soft ones H for Harbertson. On the other hand, H maybe it is not the fault of the pro- H moters, but something is wrong some- 1 where, and if many more matches like 1 this one and some in the past are H pulled off, the wrestling game will be H forever dead in Ogden. H If Harbertson is so good, why don't H they bring Santel, the light heavy- Hj weight champion of the world, from M the coast, to meet the Ogden prido' M Santel will make any weight for Jack H and will bet the First National bank H on himself. The only thing the good m wrestler wants Is a reasonable purse H and side bet. Let us hope that the 1 next man Harbertson wrestles will be H somebody with a "rep." and not a H "has-been." Harlan Peyton refcreed M the match. H Boxing Match. Hl Tho boxing match between Frank M Barrieau and Jack Torres was better H than the wrestling match; at least the 1 spectators saw a good K. 0. punch de- H livered. Referee Knowlden gave Bar- H rioau the decision in the second round. H Billy Jolinson of Ogden put away H Kid Dutch of Salt Lake In one round. m The fight was a scheduled six round Hl preliminary. The match was fast un- Hl til Billy landed a crashing lef hook M to the jaw. H Many women attended the match. M Challenges Issued. H Ira Dern of Salt Lake and Pet Vis- H ser, the Ogden fireman, issued chal- H lenges to Harbertson. Hj . Asked after the match if he would H accept Visser's challenge for a match Hj at catch weights, Harbertson replied: H "If Visser wishes to meet me again, H I will meet him for any amount of 1 money, providing ho makes 175 pounds Hl ringside. I do not feel that it's up to H me to go out of my class to meet him ! H at catch weights. I think I'm doing , H well enough to go up from the middle Hi weight class into the light heavy- Hl -weight without talcing two steps and ' l meeting Visser as a heavyweight. Let Hlj him make the weight of the light : HU heavyweight division and I'll meet him H any time, any place and for any H amopnt of money." M Harbertson wrestled Visser before ' fl at 178 pounds at 3 o'clock. Now he : H wants Visser to make 175 pounds ring- ' Hl side. "Nuf sed." Bring on Santel. |
