Speculative issues, notably sugars, oils, shippings, and other semi-war descriptions, were the strong features of today's market, with more moderate strength in munitions muni-tions and equipments. Cuban-American Sugar was conspicuous for Its 11 point gain, this being counterbalanced by a break of 9 1-2 in People's Gas on the cut In tho dividend. Other gas shares fell in sympathy. Consolidated Gas losing over three points. United States Steel made an extreme advance of 1 1-4 points, with one to two for General Electric, United States Rubber, Rub-ber, Goodrich and Wilson Packing. Rails and coppers were neglected. The closing was strong. Sales were estimated esti-mated at 250,000 shares. Bonds were Irregular. NEW YORK, April 14. An extreme declino of 9 1-2 points in Peoples Gas of Chicago on the overnight reduction of the quarterly dividend from 1 1-2 to 1 per cent and a six-point advance in Cuban-American Sugar were the sharply sharp-ly contrasting features of today's early dealings. Cuba Cane Sugar rose almost al-most two points, with one to two points advance in the leadirig petroleums, petro-leums, Ohio Gas, American Locomotive, Locomo-tive, Industrial Alcohol and American Woolen. United States Steel also developed de-veloped moderate strength with affiliated affil-iated industrials, but metals and rails were scarcely quoted and little altered.
