WILLIAM ARRESTED FOR assaulting after u lively baase early yesterday morning william tavener was placed under arrest by officers T burh and orin hadlock on a charge of disturbing the peace it appears that tavener together with several others was standing on twenty fifth street below grant about when an inoffensive achl cabrie along without provocation it Is stated tavener struck the mongolian which assault the latter resented with the result that ener was getting as good as he was giving until some one yelled police officer T burk was approaching at the tin nand tavener started on a run up twenty fifth street he was easily outdistancing the officer when the latter threw his club which narro vily missed the fellows head the abass continued up twenty fifth street officer burk pressing a bicycle into service to aid him in capturing his man at the comer of washington avenue tavener cut across toward the i boyle block action was noticed by officer hadlock who was walking along that thoroughfare and in crossing the street headed the fellow off placing him under arrest and he was soon landed at the police station
