Show instrument against city fathers was short lived salt august 3 A temporary injunction was issued by judge armstrong in the third district court today restraining three mormon members 0 the city council from voting for or against a proposed franchise to the utah light and railway company now pending before the council the three members restrained are rulon S wells W J tuddenham and A S barnes wells la one of the presidents of the seventies and tho other two men hold minor charch offices the ground on which the restraining order Is issued is that these three men by virtue of their membership in the mormon church are interested in the proposed franchise as the church owns stock in the utah light and railway company and tte president ot the corporation joseph F smith is also president of the mormon church the corporation has a monopoly on street railway transportation and electric lighting in this city the proposed franchise js designated to consolidate and extend existing held by the company at a lato hour tonight after argument by attorneys for the light power company the temporary injunction was dissolved by judge armstrong tha city council which had apen in special session awaiting jhb action of the court on the motion to dissolve then passed to its third reading the ordinance granting the franchise |
