| Show COMMERCE OF TIIS COUNTRY statistics of internal trade movements as receive dby the department of commerce and labor through its bureau of statistics indicate that although aggregate livestock receipts at important interior markets during the first half of tho current year were somewhat in excess ot similar move ments in 1904 total grain receipts and shipments were not so large as those of the previous year notwithstanding the fact that corn moved in exceptionally heavy volume at the markets of chicago kansas city omaha st louis and st joseph total livestock receipts during the month of june amounted to head as against a similar inbound movement in 1804 or head and in 1903 of head during the first six months of the current year head of livestock received at these five markets a number approximately head great er than for a like period in 1904 and over 2 million head greater than that for 1903 the present years movement was divided into cattle calves bogs sheep and horses and mules As compared with the 1904 alg ures gains were made in the arrivals of calves hogs sheep and horses and mules but a slight logs occurred in receipts of cattle the number of cars required to handle the inbound movement during the first six months of 1805 totaled as compared with cars in 1904 and cars in 1903 total grain receipts at 12 important interior primary markets during the month of june amounted to bushels of which bushels were wheat bushels corn bushels oats bushels barley and bushels rye A total inbound movement during the corresponding month in 1904 aggregated bushels be ing over 0 bushels less than the 1905 receipts due largely to increases the latter year in the arrivals of corn oala and barley for the first half of tho current year bushels of grain were received at these markets in contrast with bushels in 1904 although large gaina were made in corn receipts during the present year as compared with similar movements in 1804 shrinkages shrink ages in wheat oats barley and rye arrivals were more than enough to these gains of the interior markacs prominently identified with tho receipts of grain cah cago led having received bushels during he first six inantha of the current fear minneapolis came second with bushels and st louis thirty with bushels commerce through the sault ste maria canals at ste marle michigan and ontario canada during tho month of juno totaled tons as against a corresponding movement in 1904 of tons and in 1903 of tons of ho traffic for the sixth month of the current year tons moved eastward and tons westward while of the total movement in both alre lons tons passed through the united states canal and tons through the canadian canal among the items prominent in the cast bound movement may be mentioned tons of iron ore bushels of wheat and bushels of grain other than wheat the principal item in the westbound west bound movement consisted of net tons of soft coal during the present season to and including june 30 net tons of freight passed through the canals t sault ste marie an amount nearly ten million tons in excess of a similar movement in 1904 and considerably over a million tons heavier than that for 1903 of the present years movement tons represent an eastbound east bound movement and tons a westbound west bound movement while of the trade passing in both directions 10 tons moved through the united states canal and tons through the canal in canadian |
