Show ORDINANCE 18 PASSED utah light railway company gets franchise after judge george G armstrong of the salt lake district court had issued and dissolved an order restraining councilmen rulon S wells W J tuddenham and A F barnes from voting tor the compromise ordinance consolidating and extending the tran chases of the utah light railway company the city council at this morning passed the ordinance by a vote of eight ayes to seven noes the vote stood ayes arthur F barnes E H da als P S fernstrom B A hartenstein J H william J tuddenham rulon S Wells Frank J hewlett noes T R black george D dean A J dails thomas hobday L D martin C M neuhausen L J wood the ordinance which was passed by the council last evening except for the amendments mentioned is in the form agreed on by mayor morris and city attorney dey in behalf of the city and judge le grand young and others in behalf of the utah light railway company the ordinance is regarded by those who have been de tending the cites interests as protecting the rights of the public and as being in the best form possible under the circumstances mayor morris in bis letter to tho council recommending the passage the ordinance gave the following as its commendable features first reducing the present maximum price tor supplying electrical energy tor lighting and heating and for power tor city purposes aa provided in the franchise you passed with a smale lonal reduction tor incandescent lighting second providing for a change in such prices hereafter only by agreement or arbitration third obtaining the necessary land tor a reservoir and conduit at cottonwood creek and a relinquishment of the alleged power rights claimed by said company to the waters of cottonwood creek fourth providing for fifty street railway tickets for 2 fifth limiting use by other companies to interurban railroads it is due to the individual efforts of councilman E A hartenstein that school children will be permitted to purchase books at a rate not exceeding fifty tickets for and that tickets will be sold for adults at fifty for 2 or a 4 cent tare |
