Show will H JAMS WAS ONE OF FIRST physicians services arc held at third ward meeting house where many honor memory from mondays standard the funeral services over the remains of the late dr ezra G williams who died august of general debility at the age of 81 were held at the third ward meeting house at two yesterday afternoon bishop james officiated the meeting house was filled to overflowing with relatives and friends of the deceased the floral offerings were very beautiful the ward choir furnished music for the occasion rendering a number of selections earl west sang a solo entitled 1 I know that my redeemer lives the speakers were hon loran farr president C F bishops robert and and elders joseph perry hans and B W wade some of the speakers referred to the fact that they had known tha deceased tor over fifty years they also I 1 dwelt upon the early history of tho church in nauvoo winter quarters and kirtland where the deceased with his father took an active part in the church work his father being counsellor to prophet joseph smith in the presidency they shohe af the excellent work that the doctor had accomplished in his profession in utah in the early days when the work of that profession was more appreciated than it is at the present time because of the very few in the country As a physician they stated he was always kind to the poor giving his services gratis to hundreds of that class they dwelt upon his many noble traits of character and of his devotion to the latter day saints church throughout almost his entire life be ing baptized into the church by prophet joseph smith april 14 1832 he was on that date confirmed by patriarch hyrum smith they said that the example he bad set before the people and his family was always of the highest type and deserving of emulation the family of the deceased were assured that he would receive aj crown of glory in mansions above because of his faithfulness to the laws and commandments of god A large funeral cortege followed the remains to the ogden cemetery whore they were interred in the family burial plot elder E W wade dedicated the grave |
