Show THAT IS THE OPINION OF A B COREY returns from route of nevada northern saw western pacific surveyors from fridays standard A B corey of corey bros construction st company has returned from a trip over the proposed line of the nevada northern railroad in company with engineer judell the miles from ely to omar was covered in three days by team mr corey says the road will encounter no grades until six miles from ely when an 8 10 per cent grade will be necessary to take the road to the mine there is only COO feet difference in altitude between omar and ely and the whole distance with the exception of the approach to the copper deposits is through the steptoe valley there is but one tunnel to be made and that is only feet long through a cliff of rocks in ely canyon the road is to be a broad gaego and rolling stock off the southern pacific may be used asked as to hia opinion of the ore bodies mr corey said he had no knowledge of mines but from what he heard he would say there are inexhaustible haus tible bodies of copper at ely mr corey believes ogden has a rare opportunity in connection with the building of the nevada northern to secure the establishment of shelters smelters sm elters at or near ogden he says the road should be of great benefit to this city the construction work on the nevada northern should begin within two weeks at flower lake 30 miles south of omar a party of western pacific surveyors were encountered they have a camp of seven tents and are running lines easl and west and also prospect ing the route for water most of their surveys have to do with the running of a foot tunnel over flower lake pass whereby they will secure a line from wells nevada with a maximum of only four tenths of one per cent grade this is said to give the western pacific a more desirable route than is possessed by the southern pacific from wells to ogden |
