Show Cherry Harvest at Capitol Reef The cherries are beginning begin-ning to ripen at Capitol Reef National Park. They should be ready by June 28. Due to a spring cold spell the estimated size of this year's crop is light to moderate. Starting Wednesday the 28th and continuing until the cherries are harvested, designated orchards will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The cherries are available on a "pick your own" basis. Pickers are requested to please bring their own ladders. The cherries are high in the trees and climbing in the trees is not allowed for safety purposes and to minimize tree damage. Pickers should also bring their own containers. The price will be 30 cents per pound. Please check at the Visitor Center or with a Park Ranger on orchards open for harvest. This year's apricot crop will be heavy. There should ber some ripe enough to begin picking about the second week of July. A news release will be made as soon as a date has been set. |
