Show School Board Authorization to reorganize the transportation department of the Iron County School District and advertise for a transportation director was approved at the board meeting held Tuesday. The board opened bids for the remodeling of dressing rooms at Parowan High School and accepted ac-cepted the low bid submitted by Harding Bros, of Cedar City with construction to begin as soon as possible. The low bid was $130,000. Three bids were submitted on the project. Bids were also accepted for providing property and fire insurance in-surance for $8,000,000 - approximately ap-proximately one third of the district's building value at the present time. Bidder Interest Four bidders participated and Central Utah Insurance represented by Kay Heywood was the low bidder with an annual premium of $8,808 on a three year policy. It is anticipated that bids w ill be let over the next two years as insurance in-surance policies expire to provide continued covering of the district's buildings. A separate bid on vandalism w as rejected in the bidding. A proposed two-room addition at the East Elementary was under negotiation with the construction firm presented providing additional ad-ditional facilities at the school. However, the proposed cost of the addition was rejected by the board and a counter offer made providing for a cost figure at or near the square footage cost of the original construction. If that is not acceptable the separate construction con-struction project will be put out on bids, it was determined by the board. Tax notes Bids were also opened on tax anticipation notes to provide funding for the district until state funds begin to flow into the district. A bid from First Security Bank at an interest rate of 4.87 percent was accepted on an amount of $700,000. The board also approved the hiring of Steve Baker, who has been in the Iron County School District for many years as an instructor at the East Elementary, as the new Principal-teacher at the Escalante Valley Mrs. Baker will serve as the school secretary and the Baker family will occupy the home owned by the district adjacent to the school. Change meeting dates During the course of the meeting a change in meeting schedules for the next year, beginning in July was approved by the board. The board will change the meeting date to the third Monday of each month with the starting time changed from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. In other action the board: -approved the call for bids for two buses to be delivered in July 1979 and to be purchased in the 1979-80 budget. Also a van for delivery purposes for the food services for delivery in July and August of this year with funds to be provided through the 1978-79 budget year. -Heard a report and adopted a new personnel evaluation system as proposed by Max Dalley, secondary curriculum director. A committee was formed to prepare the evaluation system and some changes were made by the board prior to its adoption. -authorized a recall for bids on a home owned by the District on property adjacent to the North Elementary School. No bids were received on the initial call. |
