Show Festival gets funds Representatives of the Iron County Room Tax Board met with officials of the Utah Shakespearean Festival this week and presented them a check for $1000 to help with advertising and promotion. Garth Jones, chairman of the board and Steve Thomas, a board member, presented the check to representatives represen-tatives of the Utah Festival Board, including Royden C. Braithwaite, chairman; Gary Mclntyre, managing director and Lee Fife, member of the Festival Board. "The impact of the Shakespearean Festival on the southern Utah area is tremendous," Jones stated. "In making the decision to help with the Festival advertising and promotional program is owing to the value that is eventually derived from the entire area from the Festival and its activities," ac-tivities," he said. Thomas pointed out that the funds are derived from the State's Transient Tran-sient Room Tax. A one and one-half percent tax is charged on all rooms throughout the state and the money turned over to the individual county board to develop advertisement and promotional activities. "It is an effort to continue to develop the tourist industry," Thomas said. "This will be a great help to the Festival," Dr. Braithwaite stated. "It is further a great tribute to the continued con-tinued cooperated effort between, the community, the college and the Festival," he stated. Jones indicated that it is the intent of the board that the funds would be used primarily in the development and promotion in the Las Vegas and Salt Lake City market areas. |
