T-Birds face Raiders at Durango What happens when two teams meet that have lost their last game in the final second by a field goal? Saturday, Southern Utah State will be in Durango, Colorado, to face the Ft. Lewis College Raiders for a 1:30 p.m. contest. Both squads were dropped last week in the final seconds of their games. Westminster used a field goal on the final play of the game to nip the T-Birds 10-7 and leave SUSC with a 1-2 overall (and RMAC) record. Ft. Lewis led most of the way against New Mexico Highlands but Highlands scored 11 points in the last 3:31 of the game, including in-cluding a 32-yard field goal on the last play of the game, to give the Cowboys a 32-31 win. The victory was the Cowboys' first in three games and the first for NMH's head coach, Dan Antolik, who was an assistant last year for Ft. Lewis. For Ft. Lewis, the loss was its first in four games. SUSC's defense will have its hands full as it will be facing the most potent offense in the RMAC. The Raiders are averaging 427.5 yards total offense per game which includes 241 yards rushing and 185 yards passing each contest. Against Highlands FLC totaled 510 yards, and the Raiders were led by quarterback Ron Trujillo who hit on 17 of 29 passes, good for 325 yards and two touchdowns. touch-downs. Trujillo also added 66 yards rushing. On the season Trujillo has thrown for 740 yards and four touchdowns, and he has added 254 yards rushing. In the backfield with Trujillo is giant fullback Darryl Washington (6-3, 230) who has rushed 77 times for 318 yards and four touchdowns. Washington played tight end last season and was named first team all-RMAC. Trujillo has three excellent receivers. Washington, who has caught 13 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown, split end Larry Bandura, and speedster flanker Maurice Rodriguez are the prime targets. Bandura caught seven passes for 141 yards against NMH, while Rodriguez's top performance was against Colorado Mines when he grabbed three passes for 164 yards. The Raider defense will give the T-Birds a tough test; FLC has picked off 10 passes' in only four games. Richard Bent, 6-3, 260 tackle, heads the defense along with linebacker Glen Hise, who leads the Raiders in tackles with 47.
