"We're gonna wimAt the last election, a city election and bond election, we had 79 out of 88 registered voters," Emenegger said. "That's about an 89 percent turnout and that's pretty high." Emenegger said he is certain the town can generate that same turnout again. Few municipalities, he said, can get I that high of a percentage. "This is one time the small towns come out ahead,"' he added. ' Emenegger said the town entered the contest to see if they could get some publicity or "a little traffic out of it." "It's a nice way to let people know about the newest and smallest town in Utah." he said. The winner in this contest, Nelson said, is based on percentage per-centage of registered voters, rather than population. Nelson said the one thing that may keep Cedar City from winning the honor is the passive attitude of residents. "People just don't take advantage ad-vantage of this God-given right," Nelson said. "And it takes such little effort to vote. There is always a poll within a few blocks of where anyone lives." |
