Show File now for Academy appointments Time is running out for high school seniors who are interested in entering the United States Air Force Academy upon graduation, according to Air Force Reserve Colonel Clifford J. Lawrence, Academy Liaison officer coordinator for Utah. Members of Congress Jrave already begun to nominate candidates to the class entering the Academy in June 1977. Therefore, a student seeking a congressional nomination should write to his United States Senators and congressional representative immediately or' run the risk of having his application ap-plication received too late, Col. Lawrence advises. Senators and representatives are interested in nominating successful high school students to be considered for academy appointments from their states and congressional districts. Colonel Lawrence advises that to become a cadet you must (1) meet eligibility requirements (2) obtain a nomination (3) meet academic and leadership qualifications (4) meet medical and physical qualifications (5) be selected for appointment. Admission Ad-mission is open to young men and women who are United States citizens, are between 17 and 22 years old, and who have never been married. A student should rank in the upper 40 percent of his class academically (a strong B or near A average) and have the background to qualify on the college board tests required of academy candidates. A student should participate in extracurricular extra-curricular activities, both athletic and non-athletic to enhance his or her chances of securing an appointment.
